THE POTION - BIG SLANG

December’s first ever DTW article’s fourth spot belongs to Big Slang and his latest single “The Potion”. The dark and ambient production from PaxOnTheBeat sets the perfect tone for Big Slang’s slow and skippy cadences. The beat is led by a distorted piano and the heavy 808 bass melody. Big Slang utilises the beats unique sound letting the production breathe for the majority of the track, which is supported by various engineering effects such as vocal layering on most of the track and filtered ad-libs. Overall this release is surprisingly unique in it’s sound and is definitely worth a listen if you enjoy the darker sounding trap style.

MOVE OVER - COMPLETE

The third track of our list this week takes us all the way to Western Australia with Complete’s latest release titled “Move Over”. Complete’s signature lyrical abilities have yet again returned and it may be his best work yet. Starting the record off with a modified version of the popular children’s counting song “Ten In The Bed”, adding his own interesting twist and setting the tone for the track. Complete showcases his crazy cadences and switching flows all whilst speaking on his struggles with his enemies and eventual success. The beat samples a beautiful violin for the melody whilst vocal notes support the sombre sounding lead. The music video features some hilarious and creative techniques to support the song’s lyrical content and punchlines that are definitely worth watching for yourself, even taking it back to Eminem’s “8 Mile”.

OUT THE VAULT - PISTOL PETE & ENZO

At our second spot this week comes Pistol Pete & Enzo with their bar heavy release “Out The Vault”. The track features two different beats with the first giving off an old school US west coast sound while the duo each spits a verse. The first verse of the first track has Enzo absolutely spazzing with his creative wordplay, punchlines, and references. Pistol Pete also brings the same energy with a slightly faster flow and story telling style. The second beat features a UK drill sounding production with sliding 808’s and a distinct lead sample. The duo goes back to back in their signature question and response style deliveries, adding to the second beat’s hard and aggressive sound.

WONT STOP - B WISE & ONEFOUR

It seems like every month ONEFOUR somehow manages to take atleast on top spot, appearing alongside B WISE for their latest single “Won’t Stop”. With the production featuring horns for the melody while the percussion and lyrical content drives the song. B WISE blesses the track with his melodic rapping and Tory Lanez sounding hooks that leave the listener bobbing their head. B WISE comes in first and boy did he bring some heat, his melodic rapping and buttery delivery paves the way for his catchy and dope hook. Spenny takes the next verse and runs with it as hard as he can with his punchline heavy style that fans have gotten used to, while JM’s brings some smooth melodic deliveries that give the beat a second to breathe before he switches back to the aggressive delivery ONEFOUR has been known for.
