DROPPED THIS WEEK: DEC 11TH
GREELY - TALK SHIT
Starting off our list this week is rapper GREELY and the music video for his track “Talk Shit”. Although the track was dropped prior this year on GREELY’s project “Risdon Wisdom'', the music video was released this week and adds a visual element to the storytelling theme of the song. GREELY rides the old-school boom-bap sounding beat with a visual heavy storytelling verse that mocks people that have “talked shit” to him, and how it affects his life. The music video ends with a hilarious outro featuring the local Mike Nolan having a drink with GREELY after work, painting himself to be the character referenced in the track.
WOMBAT - BAD WORDS
Wombat has returned to our articles once again for 2020 with his new single “Bad Words”. Spitting over an old school east coast US influenced beat with his signature skippy and ever changing cadences. With intelligent setups and punchlines adding to the creative similes and use of onomatopoeia it is clear that Wombat still hasn’t fallen off. His use of creative writing whilst simultaneously riding the beat and changing cadences is nothing short of impressive. Wombat keeps consistently performing with his latest drops and we are keen to see what next year will have in store for the Tasmanian rapper. Watch the new single from Wombat below!
dondrino - i promise
Taking a break from our list this week for an up and coming feature from DONDRINO and his latest single “I Promise”. The trap anthem features a flute lead melody and some subtle piano keys over a complex 808 and kick pattern and skippy hi-hats. DonDrino’s unique underground lyrical content sounds like a fusion between HUSKI, NTER, and Lil Sknow with undertones of US trap influences. The track jumps out of the speakers whilst Drino rides the beat with his aggressive underground street influenced lyrics that capture the listeners attention and paints vivid mental imagery that consumes the listener with DonDrino’s world and personal experience. With only one previous track titled “Gonna Die” featuring similar aggressive tones and street influences we look forward to Don Drino’s next release. THE LC - GREAZY
The duo from Logan have returned after a long period of silence with their new single “GREAZY” taking our top spot this week. The fast paced beat features a unique sounding melody, supporting percussion, and a crazy distorted 808 that gives the track the extra aggression it needs. Juxso spits the first verse and chorus with a skippy cadence that uses the beat for support whilst Maynuckz has a faster and more aggressive verse that flows nicely off the skippier rhythms from Juxso. Overall, the production and overall sound is amazing and very distinct in today's drill heavy scene, the duo have a lot to prove in 2021 with only a small discography behind them. We are very excited to see what the future has in store for Juxso and Maynukz.
