After a career full of criticism and legal battles, the group from Western Sydney’s Mt. Druitt are yet again proving their endless talent in their latest project and debut album, “Against All Odds”. An appropriate title that relates to the groups rise to fame and their struggles as artists in trouble with the law and comes as another reminder of ONEFOUR’s incredible capability and consistency.
Since the early days of the groups careers beefing with other popular Western Sydney based drill group “21 District” through tracks like “The Message” and “Spot The Difference”, the group has had no problem beefing in the public eye. This was proven to the scene and the country as a whole when CCTV footage was shared online and details ONEFOUR members Celly and YP attacked a man in a pokie room, drawing a lot of negative attention to the group and eventually leading to Celly and YP’s arrest. Although this wasn’t the last of their battles with the law when the NSW Police Force actively looked to cancel the groups live shows, even threatening to take away the liquor license of a venue in Melbourne if they didn’t cancel ONEFOUR’s upcoming appearance over allegations and the fear that the groups lyrics would “insight violence”. With half of the group behind bars, it came as a surprise to fans when the group announced the release of their debut EP, marking a critical moment in their career.
The album consists of an Intro by Celly14, An interlude each from Lekks and YP, Four tracks from Spenny and JM’s, and finally two tracks with the likes of The Kid Laroi, Carnage, and Dutchavelli. Spanning roughly 22 minutes, the group have returned with their signature aggressive drill lyrics and uptempo production whilst also changing the vibe on tracks like “Leaving” and “Lets Ride”.
Ending on a much more familiar note, the group managed to grab some huge international features for the final two tracks of the album. The first track, “Better”, features UK Drill superstar Dutchavelli and US DJ Carnage for an uptempo, insanely high protection banger. The second track, “My City”, features no other than The Kid Laroi for a similarly hype track. In conclusion, this album marks a crucial moment in the respective artists careers and hopefully marks the transition into musical artistry, a far call from the cold gritty streets of Mt. Druitt.
