CHILLINIT - “HENNY & REEFER”
Our top spot for this week should come as no surprise, Chillinit’s latest high energy single “Henny & Reefer” is a stern reminder that Chill is an AusRap legend. The track features a NYC inspired drill sound, with a violin sample and a massive 808 bassline that gives off subtle Pop Smoke vibes. Chillinit’s delivery and lyrical content on his latest single is reminiscent of his older breakout tracks with a more polished and matured twist. Sticking to his most prevalent themes: Women, Weed, and Wordplay, Chill adds structure, pop culture references and his fast delivery to the JAEN produced beat. The music video also shows a level of quality and detail that is a cut above his previous videos, including an impressive visual storyline, appealing scenes and locations, and the budget to back it all. Chillinit has really stepped his game up another level and continues to raise the bar for Ausrap.
DJ DISCRETION, LISI, SHELY - LOOK AT ME NOW
This week’s second place spot features an unexpected collaboration from DJ Discretion, Lisi, and Shely, with their fresh new single “Look At Me Now”. The track has a Latin inspired sound backed by an acoustic guitar melody and supporting bass guitar, while Lisi and Shely deliver some high quality verses. Lisi’s creative wordplay, bars, and flow-schemes have always been a cut above, and this track is no different. Focusing on his song structure and creative wordplay Lisi’s verse leaves nothing left on the table. Shely has the second verse, and comes in off the back off Lisi’s hook for one of his best verses yet. Shely showcases his ability to incorporate complex wordplay into the cadence of his verse’s. As a Shely listener, this is definitely one of his greatest verses yet, and we are excited to see more collaborations between unlikely artists in the future.
BIG KASH - PARANOID
After a short spell with no releases, Big Kash is back with another single titled “Paranoid”, his second track since the Warwick Farm Shooting incident that led to the arrest of Masi Rooc. The track is built upon the dark sounding distorted sample and the drill influenced percussion. Returning with his aggressive voices and melodic interrupts to detail the events of the shooting and the personal consequences he is now faced with. The music video is extremely high quality and remains visually interesting throughout. We look forward to the next Big Kash release in the future.
KZDABANDIT, HOODLUM SHIESTY - PRESSURE
This week's final spot goes to KZ Da Bandit, and a new name on Oceania’s Finest, Hoodlum Shiesty with their collaborative single titled “Pressure”. The track has a unique RnDrill sound, with a sampled string lead, offset percussion, and booming 808’s setting the stage for the lyrical elements perfectly. KZ’s hook’s are always worth listening to, and are almost always incredibly catchy, this track follows the same rules. While his verse is equally as impressive as his hook, utilising his sound effect heavy ad-libs and aggressive delivery to create a unique flow and sound. While Shiesty backs a faster, yet equally aggressive verse, matching the song’s overall tone.
