BabyyBax ft Shely210 - “Reasons”

Relatively newer rappers to those mentioned later on in this week's list, BabyyBax and Shely210 just dropped “Reasons”. Shely returns with his signature flow while Bax rides a similar flow scheme and cadence. The two take turns for both hooks and verses in a back to back fashion. The beat, produced by @ProdByEndless features a latin sounding guitar lead, with a bouncy but laid back 808 pattern that accentuates the bars and punchlines for both artists. Both artist’s unique voices add to the tracks overall vibe and laid back drill style, the drill rhyme scheme is present throughout the whole record with various vocal effects to increase the tension and help the delivery of both artists bars. The music video features an extremely visually appealing intro that sets the theme and location for the majority of the music video. Shot, edited and directed by @DomCBenFilms has high production value and remains visually interesting throughout its entirety. Overall, this is an excellent release from these newer artists and an excellent addition to both artists' discography. We hope these two continue to release more music both collaboratively and independently.

KZDaBandit - “Pablo”

The fourth spot this week goes to up and coming Logan based rapper K.Z Da Bandit with his best release yet, “Pablo”. With production sounding like it came straight out of Timbaland’s catalog, the intense and booming 808 bassline syncs beautifully with the flute melody. K.Z’s aggressive delivery and adlibs add to the tracks uptempo and hype vibe and when paired with his clever use of punchlines and wordplay produce a dope as fuck sounding record. So far it seems it is impossible for K.Z to drop a shitty hook, his previous releases also include his insanely catchy and meaningful hooks. The lyrical content is mostly trap influenced and is filled with name drops and wordplay that takes a few listens to catch due to his quick and intense delivery. It’s his delivery that has made K.Z stand out to me the most, his gritty voice and unique delivery add to the tracks overall bounce. The music video is shot well and features various locations as well as a small storyline that helps aid transitions throughout. Filmed by @GeorgeMac, K.Z brought out the boys for this one, featuring designer garms, staunch dogs, and improvised ballies left right and centre, making for an incredibly visually appealing drill style video. This track has been on repeat for me since it dropped today, its aggression and gritty sound make it perfect for anything from riding out, to getting some reps in. K.Z is definitely an artist to watch out for in the coming year and the remainder of 2020.

Nerve - “Reese’s Pieces”

At the middle spot in our list this week Nerve returns with his own production for his new single “Reece’s Peeces”. The percussion heavy beat is driven by an insanely punchy kick and 808. The lyrics are full of subtle wordplay and clever one liners that take a couple listens to fully grasp. Nerve’s signature flow scheme and on point delivery is only improved by the slight use of vocal chops and adlibs throughout the entire record. Keeping true to his style and persona, Nerve does a great job of repping the land down under even showing a vast array of Australian lunch time snacks at the end of the music video with an accompanying challenge posted in the comment section by Nerve himself. A uniquely Aussie bar comes to light in the second verse when Nerve says “Pull up, Pull up in a Subie. Outback, Son i ain’t driving a Benz…” A play on rap group NME’s lyrics in their breakout hit “German”. The music video is also packed full of No1Network and Nerve official merchandise. With socks, tees, stickers, and other various garments displayed throughout its entirety.

Chillinit - “Dark And The Light”

Our second spot this week goes to one of Aussie rap’s new elite Chillinit with his track “Dark And The Light” from his surprise mixtape drop last friday. Chillinit returns with his grittier and deeper lyrics his fans have known him for. Exploring themes of personal struggles and the pressure and intensity of fame, Chill goes in with clear pent up aggression in his delivery. With use of repetition and rhetorical questions to aid his message to the listener, Chill talks more about his personal life and thoughts in relation to his current life compared to what he thought it would be. Can we see some potential signs of imposter syndrome with one of Australia’s newest stars? The answer becomes clearer when we listen to the full album and refer to some of the other lyrics. With this being said, the song is still in my opinion, one of Chills best releases. With fans being used to funner and lighter subjects or his deep interpersonal and self-reflective lyrics, Chill has delivered the latter with this release whilst still managing to balance out the rest of the Mixtape to cater for all fans.

SnoeeBadMan ft. VinSins + Huskii - “Never Free”

Today’s final entry on the list goes to SnoeeBadman featuring VinSins and Huskii for the single “Never Free”. The track explores life in and out of prison over a sinister sounding UK influenced drill beat produced by the legend @SonderOnTheBeat. Snoee’s accent and deep voice compliments the sinister beat and lyric choice, the classic drill delivery and lyrical content flows beautifully into Vinsins verse where he adds some clever one liners and some intense visual imagery. For the third verse, Huskii spits some familiar lyrics from a previous Instagram live with Chillinit. Huskii stated he had recently written some bars to a drill beat and was spitting it before Chillinit added a freestyle to boot. After listening to this track multiple times I really think this will become one of the scene’s favorite drill anthems in the near future, the trio delivers some creative one liners and wordplay scattered throughout whilst they all still manage to give the listener intense visual imagery through the lyrical content and delivery.
