“Pill Popping Animal” Highlights Crofty’s Consistent Release Run

Crofty is three months into a self-imposed release schedule, one track a month across the year, and his latest drop suggests the plan is more than just consistency. “Pill Popping Animal,” featuring Indigomerkaba and produced by Rowan Gibb, is the kind of record that builds into itself and holds attention without forcing it.

The Production Lets the Track Settle Into Itself

Rowan Gibb sets the tone before anyone raps. The intro moves slowly, holding tension before the drums arrive. Once they land, everything locks into place. Triplet hi hats sit high in the mix, a steady 808 anchors the low end, and small details in the percussion keep the rhythm unsettled without losing control.

It is a simple structure, but disciplined. The atmosphere carries the weight, and Deeza Music’s mix gives everything space to sit properly. The depth of the final mix is one of the track’s strongest qualities. It uses the full range without overcrowding it.

Crofty’s Verse

Crofty enters cleanly as the tension breaks. The first section is tight and readable, then he stretches the flow just enough to shift the feel without disrupting it. The change is subtle but intentional.

There is a line: “I been working on my flows” that lands more like a statement than a flex. The verse backs it up. References stack without feeling crowded, and the wordplay rewards repeat listens.

He moves between punchlines and flow switches without making a moment out of either, which is where the control shows. He also carries the hook, tying the title into something memorable without overcomplicating it.

Indigomerkaba’s Feature

Indigomerkaba approaches the track from a different angle. Where Crofty leans into range, Indigo focuses on precision. The contrast is clear even in the references Crofty nods to Conor McGregor, while Indigo counters with Cassius Clay.

That difference sets the tone for the second half. His verse reads partly as reflection and partly as technical execution, tightening the structure rather than repeating it.

It positions him as someone operating at a more deliberate level lyrically, and the performance supports that. The track works on a continuous through line, not two isolated moments.

Consistency Without Compromise

Crofty’s monthly release run is starting to show its intent. Three releases in, the quality has not dropped to match the pace. That consistency is its own signal.

“Pill Popping Animal” also sits outside of current trends. The production is not chasing a moment, and the writing is not built around a sound that will date quickly. It is the kind of track that builds value over time.

Both Crofty and Indigomerkaba operate in a part of Australian hip hop that prioritises craft over visibility. Lyricism, flow control, and production detail sit at the centre of the approach.

The involvement of Rowan Gibb and Deeza Music reflects a wider pattern in the scene. Small creative circles producing at a high level without relying on major infrastructure. The output is starting to speak for itself.

Crofty still has nine months left in this release run. If this is the standard, it is worth following closely.
